FH&P Lawyers Continues To Support The Special Olympics

June 06, 2018 by FH&P Lawyers

FH&P Lawyers has been, and continues to be, the title sponsor of the Annual Special Olympics Golf Tournament since 2012. 2018 is FH&P’s 7th year as a title sponsor for the Tournament. The 15th Annual Special Olympics Golf Tournament was held on Friday, June 1st at the Kelowna Springs Golf Club.

The Tournament is Kelowna’s major source of funding for individuals involved in the Special Olympics athletic programs. Last year the Tournament raised $49,000.00, and for the past 14 years, this Tournament has raised $495,185.00. Every year we look forward to fundraising for the Special Olympics, stay turned for the amount that was raised this year.

Special Olympics British Columbia is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports. These programs are offered to enhance these individuals’ experiences across British Columbia and to provide high-quality sports programs and competitions to enhance personal skills, such as peer interaction and personal achievement.

In Kelowna, there are over 200 athletes that participate in the Special Olympics British Columbia sports programs. These programs are important for children with intellectual disabilities because they encourage the development of self-esteem and the improvement of physical, cognitive, and social abilities among peers. For children, there are three distinct programs differentiating on age: Active Start (ages 2-6), FUNdamentals (ages 7-11), and Sport Start (ages 12-18). These programs encourage the development of motor skills through sports and create a positive learning environment. For the athletes who compete in higher levels of completion, there are programs to elevate their performance levels. Programs like the Performance Program and Club Fit are offered to the athletes and coaches of the Special Olympics British Columbia.
