If you’re a More Rewards member, you may have received an email in October letting you know your personal information was accessed in a data breach. For a lot of people, that news comes with questions and some unease about what happens next.
Our team wants to help. Darren Kautz, along with David Horvath and Wendy Cheung, has brought another proposed class action, this time on behalf of a Kelowna resident and other More Rewards members affected by the breach.
On Oct. 16, the company behind the More Rewards loyalty program confirmed that members’ personal information had been accessed. Members began receiving emails warning them about possible phishing and scam attempts that could appear to come from More Rewards.
The notice of civil claim was filed Oct. 27 in B.C. Supreme Court on behalf of affected members across several provinces. The claim asks the court to order the company to fund at least five years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection, or pay damages equal to that cost. It also seeks compensation for privacy violations, out-of-pocket expenses, time spent protecting against identity theft, potential fraud losses and other damages.
The proposed class action has not been certified, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
