We are growing in Penticton

September 20, 2022 by FH&P Lawyers

There’s reason to celebrate for FH&P Lawyers.

In fact, there are a few.

Tanvir Gill
just received recognition from Kelowna Chamber of Commerce as one of BDO’s Top 40 Under 40, a program that recognizes young professionals in the community and their many accomplishments. An associate at FH&P Lawyers, Gill humbly shares that “It’s an honour. I’m so young. I didn’t expect anything, not in such a short time. I have really just started my career, so it’s nice to have recognition so early on.”

Growing up in a family that owned and operated a raspberry farm, Gill has a special interest in the South Okanagan. She sees the connection with many similar businesses that operate in the region, noting her passion for the agriculture industry drives her to support those clients.

To complement Gill’s recent award, FH&P Lawyers was also recognized as Business of the Year through Thompson Okanagan Business Excellence Awards. The organization is extremely proud of this achievement but says it takes more than doing business to make a great business.

FH&P has always had a strong community presence. “We’ve always been integrated into the community through boards, volunteering, and sponsoring, and having a solid presence in the Okanagan,” partner Darren Kautz shares.

COVID significantly altered how the entire law team and staff operated, but key learnings have been carried forward, leading to innovation to better serve clients. “We plan to stay on the same trajectory,” Kautz says. “We will continue to be innovative to ensure our clients across the Okanagan, B.C. and Alberta get the best service from our team.”

FH&P Lawyers is also celebrating its recently renovated Penticton office. This southern location opened in the fall of 2019 before the start of the pandemic, but COVID-19 temporarily slowed the progress of the new branch.

The building located at 202-74 Wade St. was originally two separate units, but the investment in renovations has resulted in a single, 2,100 square-foot office that is home to new flooring, desks and offices. Feedback to date has been extremely positive, and the doors have already been opened to a few networking events.

“Our goal is to provide the same full service in Penticton and the South Okanagan as we do in Kelowna,” FH&P chief operating officer Murray Bye says. Lawyers that live in Penticton will be supported by lawyers that commute regularly between the two offices. “We have repeatedly been told the South Okanagan is underserved due to lawyers not having the capacity to meet the demands. By having access to our Kelowna lawyers as well, clients experience a full-service legal firm versus having to deal with several different ones, depending on the practice area of the legal matter.”

FH&P Lawyers has always had a strong presence in Kelowna—one that spans over 100 years. And it is hoping for another century under its belt in the Penticton office.

“We really are designed to serve the entire Okanagan community,” Bye says. “Our firm is unique in the fact we are a full-service firm, operating in many towns and cities, and home to lawyers that are fluent in twelve different languages, including Punjabi and Hindi.”
