Ava grew up in Toronto, where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics from York University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. In 2010, the mountains and the ocean drew her to the west coast and she moved to Vancouver, where she obtained her law degree at the University of British Columbia.
Upon completing law school, Ava articled at the Vancouver office of one of Canada’s largest national firms, where she gained invaluable experience in a variety of business law matters. She eventually moved to the Okanagan to be closer to the outdoors and operated her own practice for six years. This experience gave Ava a unique perspective into the life of a small business owner, allowing her to understand and truly empathize with her entrepreneur clients.
Ava has developed a focus in corporate commercial law, advising owner-managed private businesses on corporate structuring and governance, debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, asset rollovers, and other tax-driven corporate reorganizations. Ava has also developed a niche working with technology startups and digital entrepreneurs. She provides strategic and practical advice to emerging and growth-stage companies, keeping in mind the specific needs and growth cycle of startups. She also advises social media influencers, content creators, and freelancers, helping them develop a strategic plan to build their brand, grow their business, and protect their intellectual property.
Ava is trained in bachata, salsa, and Latin-ballroom dance and has been dancing for nearly 20 years. She enjoys the beautiful outdoor playground that British Columbia has to offer by skiing, rock climbing, camping, biking, kayaking, and paddleboarding—all with her young daughter and Australian Shepherd puppy in tow. She also enjoys traveling and has traveled in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America. She’s looking forward to checking Antarctica off her list soon!
